Our hotel is located in the center of UNESCO Eco Park at an altitude of over 1,600 meters. The area offers not only fantastic skiing and relaxing hot spring baths, but also delicious traditional Japanese cuisine, which has been designated Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. Our location is ideal for accessing 21 different ski resorts in Shiga Kogen, comprising a total of 84 ski runs. The resorts are open from the beginning of December to the Golden Week holiday in early May. At a height of up to 2000 meters, visitors will love skiing or snowboarding in the fresh powder, or the challenge of down-hill skiing along the many mountain ridges. The resorts offer a wide variety of slopes, including romantic tree-lined runs and wider slopes suitable for beginners and families.

Monkeys swim in the hot spring.

JIGOKUDANI YAEN-KOEN.
Since 1964, Jigokudani Yaen-koen has been loved by many people all over the world.　Jigokudani Yaen-koen is a place where the interesting life of Japanese Macaque can be observed closely, and is known for the Monkey’s Onsen.

Wild monkeys bathing in hot springs is now an iconic image of the area. Jigokudani Wild Monkey Park is the only place in the world where wild monkeys are known to bathe in natural hot springs. Why then does it happen here?
It is believed that a baby monkey one day had the curiosity and the courage to venture in to the hot spring for the first time. This behavior then spread through the troop, and the Wild Monkey Park established hot spring baths exclusively for the monkeys.
Japanese Macaque monkeys inhabit a more northerly area than any other type of monkey. Jigokudani wild monkeys bathe in the hot springs to endure the severe cold in the winter season, and it is uncommon to see them relaxing in the hot water in warmer seasons.

An image of the Jigokudani Snow Monkeys was featured on the front cover of Life Magazine. They also gained popularity via word of mouth during the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics and have become a world famous icon of the area, drawing large numbers of foreign tourists every year.
Access to the Wild Monkey Park: Take the Nagaden bus bound for Yudanaka from Hoppo Onsen, and get off at Kanbayashi (approx. 40mins), then go on foot to the Park (approx. 30mins).
A ‘Snow Monkey mini-bus’ is also available, operating on a special schedule from Yudanaka station. A booking is required for this service.
